Kingfishers - Observations through Time

The focus for Kingfishers for British Science Week this year was to make practise our working scientifically skill of observing over time.

We began by observing what happens to fruit over time.  We chopped up some fruit and drew a daily observational picture of what was happening to the fruit over the course of 5 days. We recorded the changes in the natural materials in a table.

We then predicted and observed what happened to different materials as we heated them.  We used milk chocolate, white chocolate and skittles.  We discussed making sure that the test was fair by ensuring that we tested each material for the same amount of time.

Finally we looked at the ‘Dancing Raisin’ experiment.  We observed what happened and the various explanations why the raisin rises to the top of the liquid.  We discussed what might happen if we used different liquid and did we think we would get the same results.
