Week 3 - The Digestive System

The Digestive System

We discussed the human body and the major organs e.g. heart, brain, lungs, stomach, intestines, oesophagus, lungs. We then talked in more detail about the organs of the digestive system and what happens to a piece of food as it travels through our body.  

We then recreated our digestive system, practising using the correct terms such as saliva, enzymes and oesophagus. 

We mashed some Weetabix in a cup and added saliva (water) to break down the food.   We then talked about the food moving down the oesophagus into the stomach.  We mixed in the enzymes (cola) in our stomach to 'digest' it further. We then spooned the mixture into the intestines (tights) and squeezed it through to the end of the intestines to the bowel and then let nature take it course!!!!
