Where I Live

House Building

At home you could use everyday materials you find outside such as sticks, stones, leaves etc. to make houses; encouraging your child to name the features of the house (e.g. door) and their purpose (e.g. so people can enter and leave the house).

Shape Houses

At home you could cut shapes out of old cereal boxes for your child to make house pictures with; encouraging your child to name the shapes and describe the shape properties e.g. number of points, number of sides, straight or curved sides.

Small World Building Site

At home you could invite your child to build houses and then draw their them; encouraging your child to say what they are drawing as they do so.

Sensory Play

At home you could use sensory materials such as shaving foam to represent cement when building; encouraging your child to describe how the sensory materials feel on their skin.
