On our Welly Fun session, Mrs Laws was very clumsy and she dropped some rubbish! The children worked together to sort the litter and recycle it into two groups, ‘plastics’ and ‘papers’.
The children picked the rubbish...
...loaded it into the bin lorry...
...took it to the recycling centre...
...and sorted it into paper and plastics!
At home you could invite your child to sort the recycling with you, identifying different materials such as plastics, papers, metals, and food waste!
Duck, Duck, Goose
We then played duck, duck, goose...
...but changed ‘duck’ and ‘goose’ to recycled materials!
After this, we moved onto our rotation of activities!
An adult led activity in the allotment, an independent activity inside the log circle, and a focus activity on the field!
Allotment
We learnt how to safely select tools from the shed...
...and how to fill watering cans with water using the water butt!
We watered the vegetables in the allotment beds...
...and found lots of apples on the apple tree!
At home you could support your child in tending to plants in your garden and using watering cans!
Independent Activity
We had muddy play using pots, pans, utensils, and natural materials e.g. grass, mud etc.
At home you could enjoy this muddy play by taking pots, pans and utensils into your garden!
Focus Activity
The children picked a leaf and a shape, drew the shape on a leaf...
...then safely used scissors to cut the shape out of the leaf!
At home you could repeat this activity, teaching your child how to safely use scissors by kneeling down to use them.
Snack Time
At snack time, we returned to the apple tree to pick apples!
We wiped clean the apples, then safely used a cutting tool to chop up the apple...
...learning how to safely kneel when using tools.
The apples were delicious...we really enjoyed eating them!
At home your could support your child to safely prepare foods and have an outdoor snack time!
Stuck In The Mud
We learnt how to play the game ‘stuck in the mud’!
The chaser would tag children, who became stuck in the mud...
...and the only way to free them...
...was to crawl under their legs!
At home you could play this game with your family in your garden or with your friends at the park!
Story Time
We finished our session by choosing a story. We did this fairly with a standing vote!
A pirate book won, so we did our best pirate impressions!
At home you could vote for books using your family members or by using your cuddly toys!
