Science Week

Science Week

During the week we have been learning about our world and how this can be changed by the actions of people.

On Monday we listened to the story 'The trouble with dragons' and we discussed how the dragons destroyed their world. Then we made a diorama to represent the effects of global warming and the ice caps melting. We looked at our model and discussed the changes.

On Tuesday we talked about the deforestation in the story from Monday. We looked at common woodland animals and talked about what they were and where they lived. We put the animals in order of size. Then we chose an animal per group and wrote down questions that we would like to find out. Then as a group we used the internet to find out the answers.

On Wednesday we learnt about animal adaptations and how these help them to survive in certain habitats. We looked at some animals and thought about which habitat they would live in.

On Thursday we learnt that it is not only humans (or dragons) who change the world. There are lots of animals who change and adapt the world around them. We replicated the skill of a beaver and tried to create our own dams. We blocked a piece of guttering with different materials to see if we could create an effective dam.
