British Science Week 2025 - Change and Adapt

The theme of British Science Week is 'Change and Adapt' so we have been looking at how we can develop our problem solving skills by changing our thinking and adapting our actions to develop sustainable solutions to scientific issues.

Fairy tale Fanatics

This year our science work has revolved around helping Dr Wolf answer questions that arise from different fairy tales.

The Three Little Pigs

We designed, made, tested and compared different types of straws to see which was the most effective.  We tested each type of straw and recorded our results so that we could compare.  We learnt that actually the phrase 'by the hairs on my chinny, chinny, chin" incorrect as humans are the only animals that have chins.  We also learnt that wolves cannot purse their lips so it would be a physical impossibility for the Big Bad Wolf to blow the pig's houses down.

Hansel and Gretel

This time we considered if the house in the fairy tale could actually be made of gingerbread and what would happen to the house if it rained.  To do this we tested 4 different types of biscuits by dunking them in water. We discussed how we need to make sure that it was a fair test by keeping the amount of water and the water temperature the same.
