Art - Making Lines

Exploring lines

We began our learning this half term by exploring the different kinds of lines in the work by artist Bridget Riley.  We considered lots of different types of lines such diagonal, wavy, horizontal, vertical and cross-hatch.  We then created our own images using chalks making strong clear lines.

Making waves

This time we are looking at and reflecting on the work of Zaria Forman.  We considered how the artist has used different materials and lines to represent the water.  We then worked collaboratively to make our own water art work.  We listened to a piece of music called ‘La Mer’ by Debussy as we worked.

Experimenting with Media

The next step in our learning journey was to make detailed observations of the work of artists Wassily Kandinsky, Renata Bernal and Ily Bolotowsky.  We then used different 2D shapes to make our own shape compositions ensuring that there were no gaps, overlapping the shapes where needed. We then filled each shape with different mediums and colours.

Observational Drawing

To finish our art work this topic we put to use all the line drawing skills we have learnt and completed our first observational drawings.  After the it is, draft we then used our knowledge and drew a second piece and added colour, shade and texture using wax crayons.
