Week 7 - Which creates the best chemical reaction - orange or lemon juice?

For our final session we decided to carry out an investigation using what we have learnt about chemical reactions.
We’ve learnt that if we combine acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate  together they will create a chemical reaction.   This time we decided to investigate the reaction between sodium bicarbonate and citric acid which can be found in oranges and lemons.
We discussed how we could test which fruit has the highest concentration of citric acid in its juice.  We decided that in order to carry out a fair test we must keep the amounts of sodium bicarbonate and the orange or lemon juice the same.
The results showed that the lemon juice created the greatest reaction and we therefore concluded that lemons must contain a higher concentration of citric acid.
