Week 5 - How are rainbows made?

This week we have been learning all about rainbows.  We began by watching a video that told us all about the refraction of white light through water droplets.  The white light from the sun refracts (splits) into seven colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - this forms the rainbow we see after storms.

If you'd like to watch the video, please follow this link:  https://youtu.be/nCPPLhPTAIk

We then practised what we had learnt we painted beautiful rainbows and made sure that we got all of the seven colours in the correct order.

As a final experiment to celebrate the last session in this science club we made reactions.  We talked about how making chemical reactions is when you mix two substances together to make something happen.  We mixed acetic acid and bicarbonate of soda with a little bit of food colouring.  We made predictions (sensible guesses about what might happen) and we discussed how the bubbles that are made during the reaction are full of carbon dioxide.
