Week 2 - Chemical Reactions and Static Electricity

So this week we have investigated how to blow up a balloon using a chemical reaction.  We have learnt that when you mix different substances together and they change this is called a 'chemical reaction'.  The substances we have mixed together are called reactants.  We have chosen to mix acetic acid (vinegar) and Sodium Bicarbonate together to create a chemical reaction.  The product of this chemical reaction is a gas called Carbon Dioxide.  We used this gas to blow up our balloon.  We investigated what happened if we used more or less of the reactants and the effect this had on the reaction and the amount of gas produced. We also created static electricity by rubbing a balloon on our clothes. We then used this on our hair and tried to stick the balloon to the wall.
