Instructions - Making and Baking Bread

Making and Baking Bread - Instructions

This term we have been learning about writing instructions. We decided that the best way to learn about instructions is to follow some and make something. We chose to follow a set of instructions to make yummy bread.

We measured the ingredients including yeast carefully into the mixing bowl and then added warm water. We then got really sticky! When we had mixed the dough thoroughly we each had a large piece and began to knead. In fact, we kneaded, kneaded and kneaded - we wanted to make sure our bread was light and fluffy. Finally we put the bread rolls on the baking trays and took them to the kitchen to be baked. The best part was of the instructions was where it said to eat the yummy bread with some butter.

While we were baking we noticed that all of the instructions used ‘bossy’ (imperative) verbs such as put, knead, weigh, mix and pour. We will be using bossy verbs in our own instruction writing over the next few weeks.
