Chinese New Year

We have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year in nursery... "Kung Hei Fat Choi" !

We used books and videos to help us learn about Chinese New Year celebrations. We made lanterns at the workshop, role played Chinese New year in the home corner, used chopsticks in the funky fingers area and counted Chinese coins in the maths area. We even had our very own Chinese banquet at snack time using chopsticks!

We learned that to prepare for Chinese New Year people clean the house to remove the bad things from their homes, they wear red and hang red decorations to bring good luck, they give red envelopes with money in to bring good luck and happiness, and they have dancing dragons at parades to symbolise wisdom, power and wealth! We also learned that 2019 is the year of the pig! Click on the link below to have a go at a Chinese New Year Quiz. (We scored 5/5 at nursery!!!)
