Summer 2 - Buckets and Spades

Sports Day

We enjoyed our sports day. We competed in 5 different activities before going onto the field and competing in 2 races against our peers.

Art Week

During art week, we focussed on our art unit – painting and mixed media, focussing on colour mixing. On Monday we learnt about primary and secondary colours and how to make them.

On Tuesday we learnt about using paint to create texture. We used foil, paper, brushes, fingers, bags and toothbrushes.

Money Week

This week we have been celebrating 'My Money Week' with the focus this year being on our community.

We have taken part in daily activities linked to money. We have learnt about the value of coins and explored the difference between wants and needs. We also thought about our community, the places that we use, such as the park, shops, library, leisure centre, discussing which are free and which cost money. We thought about people who help in our community and whether they charge or do this for free, thinking further about how we could help others without it costing.

Year 1 Visit to Matlock Farm Park

The year 1 children enjoyed their visit to Matlock Farm Park. We had a tour of the park and saw goats, highland cows, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, horses, sheep, deer, meerkats, rabbits and guinea pigs. We fed most of the animals and learnt how to hold our hands to feed them depending on if they were happy or nibbly. We finished the day with an adventure on the play park and a bouncy pillow.

RSE Day

This year the RSE day theme was "It begins with me." We talked about confidence and self-esteem. The children listened to a story about an Eagle and some chickens. We then discussed what skills or activities we would like to be better at. The children wrote what they wanted to be better at on a feather. Then we made bracelets with slogans on, such as "I am proud" or "I am happy."
