The children enjoyed the first visit of the year to Killamarsh library. They walked safely to the library. Mrs Whittingham read a story that the librarian had chosen for us. Then we all got to choose a book and have it stamped. We can't wait for our next visit.
In maths we have been learning about doubles and near doubles. The children worked with a partner and rolled 2 dice. If they rolled a near double they scored one point. The first to 3 points was the winner.
In English, we listened to the story 'The Visitor'. Emil sent us a message using a paper aeroplane. We had to find it in the classroom. We read the letter and we decided to send him a reply. The children thought about how to reply. They wrote their message and then we followed some instructions to make our own paper aeroplane. When we had finished we all flew our aeroplanes across the room.
Mrs Weretelnikow asked the children to choose this years school councillors. The children who wanted to be on the school council gave a speech to the class. We then chose 6 children to be put forward for the ballot. The children took their ballot paper and made their choice. then they came and put it in the ballot box. The result was announced in a whole school assembly. Congratulations to Harry and Jorgi.
We found out about Diwali. We listened to a story of Rama and Sita, we watched a video about how Hindus celebrate Diwali. We made Divas using card, decorated rangoli patterns and wrote about Rama and Sita.
