Each week during Forest Friday, we split into 3 groups with different jobs and rotate throughout the session. We complete both adult-led and independent jobs, so the children have creative freedom in their learning.

For World Mental Health Day on October 10th, we participated in some well-being activities around school. We all wore some yellow accessories for young minds and participated in a mile walk around the playground.
Decorate a Sunflower
All classes in the school decorated a sunflower, and Goldfinch class decided to do theirs during Forest Friday. We had the choice of yellow chalk, felt tips and crayons to decorate the petals, and used outdoor materials for the centre.
In science during the first half term, we focused on learning about our bodies, senses and how to keep healthy.
Our Bodies
Germ experiment
To help support your children's hand washing at home, you could use the NHS hand washing video, which shows all the areas they need to wash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9VjeIWLnEg
Autumn 1
In maths this half term, one of our focus topics was patterns. We explored this in lots of different ways. On our creative table, we had opportunities to explore and create our own patterns, linking with a story called 'Pattern Fish', which we read and discussed, focusing on repeating patterns. We also did a Forest Friday activity where the children created their own pattern from materials they found outdoors.
To support your children at home, you could create different patterns with household materials like fruits or toys. Remind children that patterns can be ordered by colour, object or size. You could let your children have a go at matching items like socks, where they will have to recognise patterns to see which ones match.
Autumn 2
Our first topic in Autumn 2 has focused on one more and one less. We have used a number of maths resources to represent adding and taking away.
