Welcome to Book Club!

This week in Book Club, we started off by choosing some books to read for pleasure, from the classroom. We really enjoyed taking out shoes off, grabbing a book and sitting comfortably. We then discussed ideas of what we wanted to do and learn in book club over the coming weeks. The children thought of some fantastic ideas. Watch this space...

Brilliant Bookmarks

This week, we have enjoyed sharing books from Miss Brown's reading garden and discussing if they are fiction or non-fiction. We then made our very own bookmarks to use at home and when we are reading in book club. The children then had a little snack and chose to listen to a story from Cbeebies Bedtime of famous people, at the end of book club before going home.

This week in book club, we started our session by choosing a book and reading it for pleasure. This means there were no questions asked, no reason why any of the children had to read a certain book; they just looked for one that interested them and looked at it. There were different genres of books to look through; non-fiction, fiction and stories, comics, magazines and chapter books. We then chose our favourite and did 'show and tell' to the rest of our book club group. We talked about the book, looked at who the author was and explained why we liked it. At the end of the club, we had a biscuit or fruit for snack and rolled the story dice to orally make up a story together ready for next week...

Using Story Cubes to Orally Retell a Story...

This week, we have been using story cubes to create our won stories using little pictures of objects, places and characters. We then each had a turn to roll three dice and draw our given three pictures on our piece of paper. Once everyone had drawn their three pictures, we worked in partners to make up a story using our three pictures. We became authors today! Well done Book Club!

Creating our very own characters...

This week, we have continued to be authors and using our story cube drawings from last week, we have begun to think about creating our very own book. This week we have focused on designing a new main character. We have used one of the pictures from our story cubes or created something completely new. We have drawn it on A4 and added detail and colour to it. We have really enjoyed inventing names and designs for our characters. Please ask us what we created... we would love to tell you all about it!
