For British Science Week 2026 we have been curious chemists. We have been exploring how materials interact and change in everyday life. We have got hands-on making slime, observing chemical reactions with the milk and skittles, and investigating the properties of materials. We have been curious about problem-solving and developing our understanding of how chemistry is involved in creating common objects.
During our art topic this term we have been working on creating 3D art forms using techniques such as rolling, scrunching and folding paper. We began by rolling paper to make 3D sculptures. We then moved onto shaping paper to make a 3D picture and, finally, we used all the paper shaping skills we had learnt to make an imaginative 3D sculpture.
So the Easter Bonnet parade is one of the most eggciting daysof our school year and all the children love to bring in their wonderful creations. We all then go into the hall to model our bonnets on the 'catwalk'. A winner from each class is then chosen and rewarded with a gorgeous Easter egg.
As part of our plants topic we have been learnign about evergreen and deciduous trees. We learnt that evergreen trees keep their leaves all year round and deciduous trees lose their leaves in the autumn. We took our learning outside and went on a tree hunt classifying trees that we found according to the type of leaves. We observed that leaves from evergreen trees are waxy, full of moisture and smooth whereas deciduous tree leaves are dry and crispy.
We have a very exciting project happening in our school right now!! As part of the Year of Reading, we are planning to refurbish our school library space. So we have been fund-raising and all the children in school took part in a sponsored Easter Fun Day. The children made bunny ears and completed an Easter-themed event, including egg and spoon, Bunny bean bag target practice and bunny hopping through the hoops. We had a fantastic time and managed to raise an amazing amount of money which has got our school library makeover fund off to a fabulous start.
