Killamarsh Infant & Nursery School

Autumn 2 - The Place Where I Live

Multisports

In Key Stage 1 we are lucky enough to have a specialist sports coach come into our school every half-term to teach a PE session for us.  We were working hard on our team-building skills by playing lots of team games where we had to work together to be successful.

A special visitor ...

We love this time of year, and we were very excited to welcome a very special visitor to our school.  When we went to visit the special guest, we made sure that we used our manners and followed our school rules, so the visitor could really see what superstars we all are!

Cock-a-Doodle Christmas

We were delighted again this year to put on a truly spectacular performance of Cock-a-Doodle Christmas.  The story is one which includes lots of parts, so everyone can have a turn if they wish.  There were also narrators who showed off their excellent reading skills and wowed the audience with their clear speech and projecting their voices.  The audience were so impressed with all the lines, songs and actions we had to learn, and the show was a complete success.  We are so very proud of all of our Year 1 children for their commitment and dedication to making our Christmas show such a wonderful experience for everyone.

Geography - Maps

As part of our Geography work this half-term we have been learning all about maps.  We looked at the features of a map and talked about what a map is used for.  Next, we used a blank template of our classroom and drew on features such as desks, doors, windows and the interactive whiteboard.

Habitat Hunting

As part of our living things science topic we have been looking at habitats. We have learnt all about different habitats and how animals adapt to live in the local environment.  We took our learning outside in our muddy Monday session and went habitat hunting. We found lots of different mini beasts. We looked at how different mini beasts preferred different conditions.

Habitat Collages

We finished our Living Things and Habitats science topic with habitat collages.  We carefully observed the different environments and discussed the similarities and differences of the environments.  We then chose appropriate collage materials to make our own habitat collages.

Art - Clay

The Kingfishers loved this activity, and we began by flattening and smoothing the clay. We rolled different shapes and experimented with making a range of marks in the clay. Finally, we made a basic pinch pot and joined at least one clay shape onto the side using the scoring and slipping technique.
