We learnt about symmetry at the Workshop table by painting and folding paper to make symmetrical butterflies.
We continued to learn about symmetry at the playdough table. The children used mirrors to help them make symmetrical butterflies, using the mirror on the line of symmetry to help them to reflect their pattern on the other side of the butterfly.
The children also learnt about the features of a butterfly; naming the wings, antenna, body, six legs, and tongue.
'Symmetrical' was an exciting new word for us to say and learn about, and we used it at the Messy Play Tray and the Maths Area as we made symmetrical patterns and talked about symmetry.
We used periscopes outside to look for butterflies outside...and also drew butterflies using chunky chalks and made butterflies from natural materials!
As we developed our fine motor skills by making curly caterpillars, we learnt about the lifecycle of a butterfly.
We demonstrated our knowledge of the lifecycle through words, singing, drawing, and craft.
On our Welly Fun session, we make butterflies!
