Introducing our Governors

Who are we?

At Killamarsh Infant and Nursery School we have:

 

• 3 Parent Governors - have a direct link with the school, as their children attend.
• 5 Co-opted Governors – have connection with Killamarsh Infant and Nursery School or its surrounding areas.
• 1 Staff Governor – work at the school, either as teachers or non-teaching staff.
• 1 Local Authority (LA) Governor – has links with the local authority.
• 1 Headteacher 

 

The Role of the School Governor

 

'Governors work with the headteacher and senior leadership team to drive the strategic development of the school and raise standards of achievement. Duties include setting the school's vision, aims and objectives, approving the school budget and appointing the headteacher.'

 

And what does this all mean in practice? 

 

• At Governing Body meetings, we, along with the Headteacher, look at what needs to be done with the children to make sure that ALL children achieve the best they can.
• We discuss and agree the school's vision and aims then let the Headteacher and staff put those into practice.
• We also discuss the outcomes and achievements of pupils at various stages of their development. 
• A key role is monitoring the budget. We look at income and expenditure, checking we have enough money to ensure the best provision of staff and resources for the children. 
• We make visits to staff and classrooms to ensure we understand how the school works. 
• When needed, we help with interviews, head teacher appraisals, attend school events, as well as attend the governor's subcommittee meetings.
